Sylhet - The Land of Two Saints and Tea
Nestled in the picturesque Surma valley amidst scenic tea plantations and lush green tropical forests, Sylhet is a prime attraction for all tourists. Its terraced tea gardens, eye-soothing orange groves, and pineapple plantations form a beautiful landscape.
Srimangal in Sylhet, known as the tea capital of Bangladesh, is the main tea center of the area. Sylhet not only has over 150 gardens but also proudly possesses the three largest tea gardens in the world.
Sylhet is also known as the land of famous Muslim saints, Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA). The shrines of these saints are visited by thousands of devotees every day.
The valley has a good number of haors, which provide sanctuary to millions of migratory birds. About 3 km. from Dakhinbagh railway station is the famous waterfall of Madhabkunda, which attracts numerous tourists every year for its breathtaking natural beauty.
Tamabil-Jaflong
Situated amidst splendid panorama, Tamabil is a border outpost about 55 km. away from Sylhet town. Jaflong is a scenic spot nearby amidst tea gardens and rare beauty of rolling stones from hills. It is situated next to the river Peain and is famous for its stone collections and being home to the Khasi tribe.
Ratargul Swamp Forest
Ratargul is the only freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh and one of the few in the world. Often called the "Amazon of Bangla," it is naturally conserved under the Department of Forestry. During monsoon, the forest is best explored by hiring local boats to travel through the submerged trees.
Bisanakandi
Bisanakandi is where many layers of the Khasi mountain meet at a single point. It coalesces the charms of high mountains, sinuous rivers, graceful falls, and dancing clouds. The rainy season is the perfect time to visit to avoid the mechanized mining nuisance found in winter.
Lala Khal
Lala Khal is famous for the emerald blue water of the Shari-Goyain River. Just at the base of the Himalayas, the river flows through gentle slopes blanketed in tea shrubs. It is about 26 miles from Sylhet city and offers a serene boat riding experience.
Satchari National Park
Literally meaning 'Seven Streams', Satchari National Park in Habiganj is home to wildlife including the critically endangered hoolock gibbon, Phayre's leaf monkey, and various tropical birds. It was established in 2005 on 243 hectares of land.
